Things to do in Eymet and the surrounding area

Here are just a few ideas of what you might like to see and do while you are staying with us.

We are just 500m from the centre of Eymet with its choice of shops, bars, cafés and restaurants. There is a weekly market all year round in the village on Thursday mornings as well as seasonal evening and daytime food markets, crafts markets, brocantes, concerts and various special events.

As well as the Eymet markets and events, there are year-round markets in many of the surrounding towns and villages, and during the summer months there is also a choice of night markets and food markets.

You can find out more about events in the village and the surrounding area by following the link to the local tourist office here.

Bergerac is our nearest town which can be reached with an easy 20km drive or by bus (limited service).

We are short drives from the stunning bastide villages of Villereal, Monflanquin and Monpazier for example, and day trip options in the area include L’Abbaye de Brantôme, the historic towns of PerigueuxSarlat and Bordeaux, or attractions such as the caves at Lascaux.

France is renowned for its chateaux of course and this region is no different. A couple of local examples are the 15th century Le Château de Bridoire in the heart of the Monbazillac vineyard and Chateau de Duras dating back to 1137. Chateau de Biron and Chateau Milandes are a little further afield.

We are around 2 hours drive from the Atlantic coast with beach resorts such as Arcachon and Cap Ferret, but much closer to home there are seasonal freshwater swimming lakes at Lougratte and Bergerac Pombonne with options for boat hire and inflatables.

Canoeing is available on the river in Eymet, at Allemans du Dropt and at Sauvetat du Dropt.

If you are looking for an adventure park, Accrobranche is in the middle of an oak forest near Duras and there is also AccroZarbres at Bergerac.

There are wine tasting and tour options in the area such as Dordogne Vineyard Tours and Bergerac Wine Tours. We recently attended and thoroughly enjoyed a 4-hour cookery course at Chillis and Spice which is a short drive from Eymet.

Special Occasions

Our region of France is a very popular destination for weddings and partnership celebrations. With our nearby Chateaux and Manoirs offering these services, and with all the restaurants and bars in the town for the wedding party to meet up ahead of the big day, Eymet is a great choice as a hub for these special occasions.

With our swimming pool, terrace, garden and private parking, why not reserve all four of our rooms for the event so we can be sure to make it that much more special for everyone involved?

Le Portanel Eymet Bed and Breakfast

Our good friends Abigail and Jonathan have recently launched the beautiful venue La Chartreuse for example, and we have links to other related businesses in the area. Whilst we are CERTAINLY not wedding planners, we can help with bookings for hairdressers, transport, restaurants etc given enough forward notice.

Longer Stays

As a B&B, a lot of our customers are with us for 2, 3 or 4 nights, but we have found that with our facilities and location, people are choosing to stay with us for longer for a ‘proper holiday’.

Our swimming pool, garden and terrace proved a huge hit during the heat waves of 2022. Our guest lounge area with its large fridge and guest crockery / cutlery / glasses etc allow our guests to bring back and keep fresh snacks and drinks from the shops in the village to enjoy on the terrace so if you are staying longer, you don’t have to eat out every day.

If you are staying longer and would like help booking up some treats such as a vineyard tour / wine tasting, cookery course, trips further afield etc. get in touch and we’ll do what we can to help. Booking out all four rooms gives you even greater flexibility of course.
